Dr. Chiu was born and brought up in North Vancouver, BC. He received his Bachelor of Science Honours at Queen’s University and graduated with Honours distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry with his Doctorate degree. Dr. Chiu was awarded membership to the international optometric honor society, Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK), for his academic excellence in each year of his optometric education. He was also part of the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) dedicated to delivering eye care and services for minority and under-served communities.
Dr. Chiu’s optometric experience includes clinical rotations throughout the United States in Ocular disease, Low vision, Contact Lens and Primary care. He completed an externship at OMNI Eye Services in New Jersey where he worked with ophthalmic surgeons specializing in retinal disease, glaucoma, cataracts, pediatrics, and oculoplastics. He also worked at the Lebanon Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Pennsylvania where he gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease. Dr. Chiu also finished an internship at the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) where he worked in the low vision clinic evaluating visually impaired and multi-handicapped patients.
Dr. Chiu previously worked at Optomeyes as an optometric assistant where he helped with pretesting, diagnostic imaging, contact lens insertion/removal training, and eyeglass dispensing. He is thrilled to have returned to Optomeyes as an eye care practitioner and looks forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones.
Dr. Chiu is glad to be back in his hometown where he enjoys spending time outdoors and in the company of friends and family. He loves to play tennis, hike, weight train, cook, and learn new things in his spare time.
